Born in Indonesia in 1952, he began his bonsai journey in 1976 as a student, deciding to actively pursue the art after moving to Jakarta in 1980 and joining the Indonesian Bonsai Society in 1982. He has been teaching his art since 1984 in seminars and workshops in Indonesia and the world over, and also on Indonesian national television. With his excellent aesthetic sense and eye for detail, Budi Suliysto is often invited to judge at international Bonsai shows.
